Deal BioScott Deal
Scott Deal has performed throughout North America, Asia, and Europe. He has premiered solo, chamber and mixed media works, and can be heard on the Albany, Centaur, Cold Blue and SCI labels. Deal’s recordings of the music of John Luther Adams have been described as “soaring, shimmering explorations of resplendent mood and incredible scale”….”sublimely performed”. Continually inspired by new and emerging artistic technologies, Deal is the founder of the Telematic Collective, an Internet performance group comprised of artists and computer specialists. In this capacity he has performed at Supercomputing Global, Zerospace, SIGGRAPH, Chicago Calling, IEEE CloudCom, Ingenuity Festival, Internet2 and with groups that include ART GRID, Another Language, Digital Worlds Institute and the Helsinki Computer Orchestra. He is a founding member and percussionist for the computer-acoustic trio Big Robot.  In 2011, Internet2, the nation’s most advanced networking consortium, presented the Internet2 Driving Exemplary Applications (IDEA) award  to Deal and composer Matthew Burtner for their co-creation of the telematic opera Auksalaq. Joel Chadabee, President of the Electronic Music Foundation described the opera as “the single best and most important realization of meaningful opera for today’s world that I have heard in decades of producing events in New York and elsewhere.” Deal’s work has received funding from organizations that include Meet the Composer, Lilly Foundation New Frontiers, Indiana Arts Council, Clowes Foundation, IUPUI Arts and Humanities Institute, ConocoPhillips, and the University of Alaska. He resides in Indianapolis, Indiana where he is a Professor of Music and Director of the Donald Louis Tavel Arts and Technology Research Center at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). He also serves as artist-faculty on the Summer Institute for Contemporary Performance Practice at the New England Conservatory.

Drews Bio 3
Michael Drews
Michael Drews is a composer, sound artist and computer musician. His work explores unconventional narrative strategies and the expressive power of contextual and cultural associations that are inherent in particular sonic and visual materials. Present throughout Drews’ work is an interest in computer virtuosity and improvisational applications of computer technology that expand traditional ideas of musical performance and creativity. Performances of Drews’ compositions have been featured at SEAMUS, Cinesonika, Electronic Music Midwest, NYC Electronic Music Festival, Studio 300, PASIC, Super Computing Global, IASPM-Canada and throughout United States. Drews holds degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (D.M.A.), Cleveland State University (M.MUS.) and Kent State University (B.A.). He resides with his family in Indianapolis and is Assistant Professor of Music at Indiana University-Indianapolis (IUPUI).

Munson Bio

 

Jordan Munson
Jordan Munson is a musician, composer, and multimedia artist whose work explores the boundaries of music’s relationship to modern technology. As a percussionist, he expanded his performance repertoire to include experimental electronic work and contemporary percussion literature. He often performs solo literature, mostly in the form of composed improvisation with a focus on live, experimental percussion and electronics. Jordan has performed alongside noteable artists such as Matmos and the Rempis Percussion Quartet. As a composer, Mr. Munson has had his multimedia and percussion works premiered at institutions such as the University of Kentucky, the University of Alaska Fairbanks and the University of Tennessee at Martin.  Munson founded the Computer Laptop Music Ensemble at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) where he serves as a Lecturer in Music Technology. He is a member of the Donald Tavel Arts and Technology Research Center team exploring on-line performance-based projects for Internet2 and interactive electronics that will expand even farther the integration of technology and music performance.  He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Percussion from the University of Kentucky and a Master of Science in Music Technology degree from IUPUI.
